John W. Gatchall of Mt Gilead died suddenly Monday, May 28, 2007 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born August 1, 1922 to the late George and Iva (Hart) Gatchall. He was a resident of Morrow County for 84 years, except when he served from 1942 to 1945 in the US Army during World War II.
For 37 ½ years he was a telephone repairman and installer. First, for Ohio Central, then United, Sprint and finally, Embarq as the company changed ownership. He belonged to the Telephone Pioneers Club. John was also a volunteer fireman for many years.
John is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Newcomer) Gatchall, with whom he spent 64 years. Also surviving are three children who were born from this union, Morris (Peg) Gatchall, Susan (Glenn) Pfahler and Linda (Dennis) Allen; six grandchildren, Scott and Jacob Gatchall, Shannon (John) Johnston and Shawn Pfahler and Jessica and Derek Allen. They were also blessed with 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Gatchall; 4 half-sisters, Zella Healea, Alta Shipman, Mabel Hart and Myrtle Showalter and a half-brother, Floyd Hart.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 1:00PM in Glendale Cemetery. Pastor Barkley Sloan will officiate and full military honors will be provided. No visitation hours will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 471 East Broad Street, Suite 1630, Columbus, OH 43215. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.gompffh.com.
