Bruce W. Bowman, 45, of Novelty, died February 15 in Novelty.
He was born October 27, 1954 to Donald and Joan Bowman who survive.
He was a former resident of Mt. Gilead and a 1973 graduate of Mt. Gilead High School. He was formerly pastor at the Pulaskiville Community Bible Church and was currently serving as senior pastor at the Riverview Church in Novelty, a position he had held for six years.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Ferree; three children, Brooke, Lisa and Bradley, all of Novelty; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel (Kathy), Brian (Dianne) and Michael (Monique); two sisters, Sharon Ringle and Susan Harter (Bart); nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held February 19 at the Riverview Church. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery. |

Larry W. Burnell, 35, formerly of Edison, died Monday, June 4, in Houston, Texas, following an extended illness.
Larry was born in Mt. Gilead on January 9, 1955 to Lawrence and Marian (Mellott) Burnell who survive in Edison. He was a 1973 graduate of Mt. Gilead High School and received his degree from Bowling Green State University in 1977. He was named one of the "Outstanding Young Men of America" in 1978.
Larry was a Decca teacher for three years at Sandusky High School prior to moving to Texas. He then taught for eight years at the Fort Bend Career School in Houston, Texas. In 1988, he was named the Business and School Coordinator for Sugarland Schools in Houston.
At the time of his death, in addition to his parents, he was survived by one brother, Dennis Burnell of New Bremen; two sisters, Patti Stansberry of Edison and LuAnn Bloomfield of Mt. Gilead; paternal grandmother Mary Burnell of Mt. Gilead; and his maternal grandmother Verne Mellott of Edison.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, June 13, at 1 p.m., in the Denmark United Methodist Church, by Pastor Mary Lou Gompf. Burial was in Bryn Zion Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Craven Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead. |

Timothy Lynn Burton, 40, 13803 Purple Martin Street, Houston, Texas, died April 10 at Arthur G. James Cancer Research Institute, Columbus.
Timothy was born October 12, 1954 in Miami County to Donald S. and Ruby D. (Perry) Burton, still living in Piqua.
He was a used car manager of Plaza Motors, Houston, Texas and a former employee of Stouder Memorial Hospital, Troy. At the time of his death, he was survived by four brothers, Gary Burton, Troy; J.H. Burton, Piqua; Steve Burton, Mt. Gilead; and Douglas J. Burton, Piqua; four sisters, Diane Ullery, Troy; Kay Willis, Troy; Joan Smith, Cardington; and Mary Burton, Rome, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was at Baird Funeral Home, Troy. Graveside services were held at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. |

William P. "Bill" Ritchey, 42, Mt. Gilead, died January 11, at University Hospital, Columbus, following a three month illness.
He was born January 25, 1954 to the late William R. and Elizabeth B. (Shade) Richey, who survives.
He was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Mt. Gilead High School, class of "1973".
He was a self-employed truck driver and served many years as an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff for the Morrow County Sheriff's Department. He attended the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
At the time of his death, in addition to his mother, he was survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Natalie Ritchey, Edison; and nephews, Chad and Jason Ritchey, Edison. |

Former Mt. Gilead resident, James A. Stockdale, 34, Templeton, Massachusetts, died Monday, January 29, at Henry Haywood Memorial Hospital, Gardner, Massachusetts.
He was born in Columbus, April 15, 1955, a son of Gene Stockdale, Heiskell, Tennessee, and Polly Stockdale, Chandler, Arizona.
A resident of the Edison/Mt. Gilead area until 1978, he was employed as a telephone installer with Comm-Tract Corporation, Waltham, Massachusetts. He was a 1973 graduate of Mt. Gilead High School.
Mr. Stockdale married the former Sherry Kelly, November 3, 1973, and she survives.
At the time of his death, in addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Stockdale was survived by a son, W. Joel, at home; three daughters, Jasmine, Lisa and Melody, at home; three brothers, Larry Stockdale, Berlin, Massachusetts, Gene Stockdale II, Winchester, Massachusetts, and Danny Stockdale, Cape Coral, Florida; two sisters, Carol Sue Heslin, San Ramon, California, Debra Crouse, Aurora, Colorado; a stepbrother, Ulysses Stockdale, Heiskell, Tennessee; a stepsister, Rachel Stockdale, Heiskell; and a grandfather, Delbert Ufferman, Marion.
Services were held at Snyder Funeral Home. Burial was in Bryn Zion Cemetery. |

Allyn Wheeler, 50, of Arlington, Texas, former resident of Mt. Gilead, died on September 28, 2005 in St. Paul Hospital in Dallas after a long bout with cancer. He was born on April 5, 1955 in Mt. Gilead and he graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in 1973.
His school mates will have known him by the nickname, "Worm." Some friends and family will have known him by his adult nickname, "Wheels." He was not a veteran but supported our troops and was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He knew a lot of trivia facts about all sports. He never married and had no children.
After the death of his father, Albert, in 1990, Allyn moved to Texas in 1995 where his mother and sister live. He was a former employee of Geauga Plastics and was a warehouse manager for General Electric for the 12 years he lived in Texas. He is survived by his mother, Audine Wheeler; his sister, Allyson Wheeler Richards, both of Arlington, Texas; a nephew, Phillip Thompson; and a great-nephew, Nathan Thompson, both of Phoenix, Arizona.
His body was donated to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School to help in the research of cancer patients everywhere. Memorial services were held on October 20, 2005 at the Edison United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions were made to the American Cancer Society in Allyn's name. |

Lorna Joan Wigton, 44, of Washington, Georgia died February 3 at her residence.
She was born January 10, 1955 in Mt. Gilead, the daughter of Atlee and Margery Joan Wigton.
She was teaching special education at the Washington-Wilkes Primary School. She was a graduate of Mt. Gilead High School and Cedarville College, where she received her B.A. in Education and was a member of the Alumni Association. She had attended Ohio State University, where she studied special education in kindergarten and attended the University of Georgia and Augusta College, where she studied special education.
At the time of her death, she was survived by her mother; a brother, Lyle Wigton, of Margate, Florida; two sisters, Cheryl (Timothy) Myers of Wichita, Kansas and Sharon (Jerry) Philbrook of Phnom Phen, Cambodia; two nieces and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Hopkins Funeral Home in Washington, Georgia. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Washington, Georgia. | |
